The company

An Atlantic Canadian seafood company, built in Newfoundland

Ocean Choice International was founded in 2000 by brothers Martin and Blaine Sullivan. Today it is one of Canada's largest seafood quota holders — a fully vertically integrated harvester, processor and exporter shipping more than 100 million pounds of wild seafood a year to over 30 countries.

Who we are

Vertically integrated, from quota to market

We control harvesting quota, operate offshore factory-freezer vessels and run four processing plants in Newfoundland & Labrador, supported by roughly 1,900 independent inshore harvesters. Managing the whole chain lets us guarantee traceability and consistent supply.

Our species span shellfish (snow crab, lobster, cold-water shrimp, sea scallops, whelk), groundfish (yellowtail flounder, Greenland halibut, Atlantic cod, redfish) and pelagics (capelin, mackerel), plus monkfish, pollock, squid and more.

From a base in St. John's, our sales offices in North America, Europe and Asia serve retail, foodservice and processing customers in more than 30 countries.

Our fleet

Modern, efficient offshore vessels

Our flagship M.V. Calvert, launched in 2020 and built to a state-of-the-art design, processes and freezes groundfish at sea. Its energy-efficient electric winch systems are designed to save around 172,800 kWh a year compared with traditional hydraulics.

Alongside the Calvert, the Newfoundland Lynx harvests frozen-at-sea shrimp and turbot, and the Katsheshuk II lands frozen-at-sea groundfish — together giving us reliable, year-round offshore supply.
