Overview
Pelagics are a seasonal cornerstone of the Newfoundland & Labrador fishery. Ocean Choice processes capelin and mackerel at plants positioned adjacent to the fishing grounds, so these fast-moving, oil-rich fish are handled and frozen quickly to protect quality.
Capelin (Mallotus villosus) is a small forage fish in strong demand in Asian markets, supplied whole and frozen, with roe-bearing fish available in season. Mackerel (Scomber scombrus) is a firm, flavourful pelagic offered whole and frozen across a range of size grades.
Because supply is seasonal, we plan programmes around the run — talk to us early about volumes, sizes and grades for the upcoming season.
